Gambia was the very first Jolly Futures rollout, one that was both successful and a learning experience.

Following a pilot in 2007, there was adoption in all schools in 2008, with a container of materials shipped out that year, and training provided. We are also fortunate to have Gambian Jolly Phonics Trainers who have been nurtured since then.

A study for the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education showed a significant improvement in literacy achievement in The Gambia between 2007 and 2009, which was attributed to this project.
