A Jolly Futures pilot or rollout was offered to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary & Secondary Education Department (KPESE) in 2016. On 19th Dec. 2016, KPESE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to adopt the programme across all 25 districts.
Training started in the district of Mardan in Jan. 2017, where 1685 teachers were trained in 5 months by Tahira Sheikh, Sadia Malik and Sadaf Asif. In Oct 2017, another trainer, Fatima-tuz-Zahra joined the team and they started training teachers in the district of Abbottabad. In under 7 months 2251 teachers were trained. 102500 pupils have been impacted by these trainings. The teachers were overall very impressed by the methodology of Jolly Phonics and knew that it would immensely improve the English literacy levels, which it did! Unfortunately in April 2018 the programme came to a halt due to administrative constraints at the KPK provincial government level.
